This also marks Girl Scouts 95th anniversary, a celebration of Girl Scouting and its 95 year commitment to help girls grow strong. Since 1912 Girl Scouting has instilled values and social conscience to millions girls. This year our council will celebrate with two events to honor Girl Scouting's core values. Girl Scout Sunday and Girl Scout Sabbath provide a special opportunity to reflect on the rich tradition and spiritual foundation of Girl Scouting, while exploring ways to carry out the Girl Scout message into the future. These special days serve as a reminder to renew commitment to Girl Scouting and to encourage every member to spread the Girl Scout message through work and example, to girls everywhere. In the spirit of service, the Be Your Best from Head to Toe service project will be going on through the month of March to collect personal care items for local shelters, agencies, and organizations in the community. This collection is done on a unit by unit basis, with each service unit making its own decision whether to pursue the project. Look for flyers in your area for drop sites and collection dates to help everyone be their best from head to toe! Girl Scouts and alumnae are encouraged to participate in "Girl Scouts Make the World A Better Place Week" in the manner that they choose. Observances could involve an individual good deed by a girl or girls, as well as organized group activities. All who participate in "Girl Scouts Make the World A Better Place Week" will be eligible to receive a pin or patch for purchase. |
