Reminder: Annual Meeting, April 26
April 26, 6:30 p.m., Girl Scout Program Center
It is most likely our last annual meeting as "GSFRA" and we hope to make it a grand finale! Learn who has received special recognitions, enjoy comedic/musical entertainment, and decide which of the two award-winning cookie desserts you'll try! RSVP to Janet at jwhite@gsfra.org by April 20. Please indicate if you are an association chair, delegate, board member, nominating committee member, Girl Scout member, or non-Girl Scout guest. You must be 14 years or older to attend. There is no charge for this important and fun-filled event.

Lion King tickets available through Girl Scouts *
May 13, 1 p.m., Fox Cities Performing Arts Center (PAC), Appleton
Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for your troop, family and friends! Tickets are $77 per person and financial assistance is available for all Girl Scouts. A Girl Scout Lion King Patch will be available to purchase through the PAC.

Still time to register for summer camp *
Take a look at the new sessions offered at Camp Winnecomac Day Camp and Camp Birch Trails Resident Camp. Get gross and slimy with Grossology! Bring your stuffed friend and visit a wildlife park at My Buddy and Me! Take control of your time at camp in Camp Wha-chu-wanna-do where YOU decide what YOU do! Explore the animal kingdom in the Amazin' Animals or Critter Care programs! Show off your artistic side in Petite Picassos, Creative Cooking and Express Yourself! Ride horses in Pony Express and Trail Riders! There are a ton of things to do at camp, like write a camp newspaper, learn to cook, visit the Mall of America, start scrap booking, redecorate a building, or trail ride in North Dakota. Belly Dancing *
April 21, 10 a.m. - noon, Girl Scout Program Center, Appleton
Experience the art of belly dancing and create your very own belly dance. Discover new ways to move, make a belly dancing wrap with bells, and expand your knowledge of the Middle Eastern Culture. Open to girls in grades K - 4.
Cost is $5/girl.

Camp Fun Night *
April 26, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. (hours extended for children of Annual Meeting attendees), Camp Winnecomac, Kaukauna
Want to have fun and learn about camp? Bring a friend and play games, do art projects, eat s'mores, and learn about all the great things at Camp Winnecomac and Camp Birch Trails. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Get a coupon for $10 off a week at camp. Open to all girls (adults encouraged). Cost is $2/girl OR bring a non-Girl Scout friend and both get in free with her $10 national dues.

Uniquely ME! Chicago or Bust! *
April 28, 8 a.m. - 10 p.m., Chicago, IL
Grab your friends and take a trip to Chicago! Visit the windy city and see the great exhibits at the Shedd Aquarium. Explore Navy Pier and have dinner. Open to girls in grades 4 and up. Cost is $45/person (includes transportation and entrance to aquarium).

Girl Scout Gold and Silver Award Workshop *
May 3, 5 - 7 p.m., Girl Scout Program Center, Appleton
Go for the Gold and Silver! Learn everything you need to know about earning the Gold and Silver Awards. Get the facts and ideas to make your projects great! Bring your questions, parents and advisors. Particularly helpful for girls looking to earn their Silver or Gold Award in 2008, but all are welcome. Open to girls in grades 4 and up (adults encouraged). Free.

Cinco de Mayo *
May 5, 1 - 4 p.m., Carl Traeger School, Oshkosh
HOLA! Join in a celebration of the Mexican culture. Watch a dance performance, create an art project, and try some authentic Mexican food. Open to the general public. Cost is $5/person OR bring a non-Girl Scout friend and both get in free with her $10 national dues.

Uniquely ME! Outdoor Challenge *
May 10, 6 - 8 p.m., Camp Winnecomac, Kaukauna
Challenge yourself with nature hikes, an outdoor survival skills obstacle course, great new games, and an edible campfire! Open to girls in grades 4 - 9. Cost is $2/person.

Pow Wow *
May 12, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Girl Scout Program Center, Appleton
Celebrate the rich culture of Wisconsin Native American Tribes! The Pow Wow is an exciting opportunity for you to see authentic dance and drum, make Native American crafts, and learn the traditional stories behind them. Visit with dancers from the American Indian Center. Open to the general public. Cost is $6/person OR bring a non-Girl Scout friend and both get in free with her $10 national dues.

Me and My Gal *
July 13 - 15, Camp Birch Trails (CBT) Resident Camp, Irma, WI
Connect with your favorite female - mom, grandma, aunt, or other special adult. Embrace a healthy lifestyle together and start with a rendezvous at camp! Join us for a weekend full of interactive programs that will empower you for a lifetime. Experience personality testing, healthy living tips, pummeling peer pressure, as well as all the fun camp has to offer like kayaking, biking, swimming, campfires, sing-a-longs, and more! Open to all ages. Cost is $42/participant.

Women's Weekend *
August 17 - 19, Camp Birch Trails (CBT) Resident Camp, Irma, WI
Practice holistic health, relax to the max, and enjoy lively "girl-centric" discussions in a pristine setting. This is a weekend for you to get away from it all and become a pampered camper. Take camp fun to a new level with kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and a campfire afterglow - all seasoned with a touch of the spa! Workshops will be offered on how important and influential you are to girls and how you can empower yourself to become an esteemed role model, as well as ways to take care of yourself and your health. Open to ages 18 and up. Cost is $42/participant (transportation provided).

Youth Service Day Celebration
April 21, 6 - 10 p.m., High Cliff State Park
Presented by the United Way Fox Cities Youth Board, this casual gathering will feature a variety of activities aimed at recognizing youth and their valuable service. You, your families and troops are invited to attend. Free food, games, and other activities will be run by staff and AmeriCorps volunteers. Food will be served from 6 - 8:30 p.m. Round trip bus transportation to the state park is available. Deadline to register is April 18 at 4 p.m. All youth and adults must submit a Registration and Permission and Release Form. Badge Earning Opportunities from the Milwaukee Art Museum

TROOP NEWS

Spring Splash deadline extended
Due to the later arrival of troop packets this year, the deadline to spring register your troop for the 2007-08 Girl Scout year has been extended to June 15. This is also the deadline for year-end troop reports. Register your troop in order to qualify for the Spring Splash prize drawings and get a jump start on the new year! Call your membership staff person or email membership@gsfra.org

Coming soon … VEG (Volunteer Enrichment Guide) on CD
To be more efficient and better serve our volunteers, the council will be providing our VEG on a CD beginning in August. Each troop will continue to receive one free copy of VEG, either on CD or paper. If you prefer the new CD format, call your membership staff person or email membership@gsfra.org by May 15.

  • Girl Scout Leader's Day is April 22. In honor of all Girl Scout leaders, any gift for a leader or item purchased by a leader for personal use will be on sale April 21 through April 28.
  • Scrapbooking specials on paper and supplies through April! Bring in a page or two of your completed product that uses at least one Girl Scout paper and one Girl Scout sticker and we will display it at the annual meeting. There will also be a drawing for those that bring in their pages.
